On Tuesday, CenterCal Properties announced that Tokyo Central, a popular Japanese grocer and retailer, will be opening at the newly redeveloped Bay Street Emeryville lifestyle shopping center in 2025. According to SFGate, this announcement finally solves a three-year-old mystery about who would occupy the 40,635-square-foot space approved by the Emeryville Planning Commission in 2021.
Tokyo Central was founded in 1965 and is owned by Pan Pacific Retail Management. The store offers a wide range of premium imported Japanese goods including groceries, ready-to-go food trays made to order meals and health products. This will be their second location in Northern California with one already operating in Cupertino.
Scott Bohrer, VP of development for Bay Street Emeryville stated that “Bay Street’s newly redesigned space provides residents and visitors with a unique cultural shopping experience.” He also added that “the addition of Tokyo Central completes our team’s vision of bringing an important daily needs amenity to the surrounding community.”
