Celebrate 50 Years of Willis Tower After $500M Redevelopment

EQ Office, Blackstone’s U.S. office portfolio company, recently celebrated the golden anniversary and iconic status of Willis Tower in Chicago’s skyline. Wednesday marked 50 years since the landmark’s original topping-out ceremony when it stood as the world’s tallest building for 23 years.

Architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill brought Willis Tower to life in 1973 when Sears needed a central office space for its employees. Last year EQ completed a $500 million redevelopment project that transformed this 110-story building into an updated state-of-the art facility with new restaurant options, sustainability enhancements and re-imagined Skydeck experience – ensuring that this tower remains a fixture in Chicago for decades to come.
Kirsten Ekdahl Hull SVP of Portfolio Management at EQ Office commented: “As we experience this new era for Willis Tower, we recognize our historic past while celebrating its future.”
