Celebrate 1 Year of Success with ESRT’s Empire Building Playbook

To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Empire State Realty Trust (ESRT) is highlighting the success of its “Empire Building Playbook: A Guide to Low Carbon Retrofits,” created in partnership with NYSERDA, major NYC-based property owners, and the Clinton Global Initiative. The playbook serves as a step-by-step guide for existing commercial buildings to reduce carbon emissions and achieve New York State’s goals.

Since releasing the playbook, ESRT has completed net zero case studies for all nine skyscrapers in their portfolio – including the iconic Empire State Building which reduced its carbon emission by 54%. Additionally, ESRT was able to reduce emissions by 43% across their entire portfolio.  John Matthews – President and CEO of Swedbank Securities commented on this achievement saying “We are very appreciative of [ESRT’s] social conscious business practice; converting their entire portfolio to wind power is a testament to their commitment towards creating a sustainable environment.”  This successful initiative marks an important milestone in achieving New York’s sustainability goals while also making strides towards reducing global climate change effects.
