**Canadian National Railway Co. to Invest $170M in Chicago Region**

The Canadian National Railway Company (CN) has announced plans to invest approximately $170 million in Illinois as part of its 2025 capital investment program.

This investment will focus on track maintenance and a range of strategic infrastructure initiatives across the state. Key projects include the development of the Chicago Logistics Hub and upgrades to technology and training facilities at CN’s Homewood Campus. The funding will also support various improvements across CN’s railway network in the region.

This move follows CN’s 2024 investment of $234 million in Illinois. That allocation included a $54 million siding extension project, $15 million for new equipment—such as 500 intermodal containers—and $10 million dedicated to improving intermodal operations.

CN employs nearly 1,700 people in Illinois and operates 1,256 miles of railroad route within the state. “CN has been a tremendous community partner across Will County for many years,” said Hugh O’Hara, President of the Will County Governmental League.

The 2025 investment is projected to create 600 construction jobs during the building phase and approximately 6,500 permanent jobs upon project completion.
