A major ABB supplier has announced a $40 million investment to expand its Albuquerque factory, doubling its production capacity. The facility will manufacture cable products for electric utility providers, specifically targeting grid hardening and resiliency initiatives. This expansion project will be located adjacent to the current plant and is expected to create 55 new jobs.
According to reports from Albuquerque Business First, the proposed zoning request outlines an expansion of approximately 93,000 square feet for the existing warehouse at 6625 Bluewater Road NW. This includes additional manufacturing space and a customer experience center among other facilities. Construction on this project is set to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
In late March, global technology firm ABB initially announced plans for this expansion in Albuquerque. With nearly 450 employees currently working at their adjacent plant consisting of production specialists, engineers and quality experts – this growth signifies continued success for both ABB and the local economy.
