CAA Opposes Bill to Establish Tenants' Rights Office

The California Apartment Association (CAA) announced its opposition to a recently introduced Assembly bill that aims to establish an Office of Tenants’ Rights and Protections. The measure, AB 2187, authored by Assemblymen Isaac Bryan and Matt Haney, has been deemed unnecessary and costly by the CAA.

According to the association, California already has numerous laws in place protecting tenants such as statewide limits on rent increases, just-cause eviction requirements, and anti-discrimination provisions. Additionally, well-funded tenant organizations are actively advocating for renters’ rights with substantial support from various organizations and government funding.

While the bill is still in its early stages without any details on function or funding provided yet,C AA expects these details will emerge soon. However, the association maintains that given California’s significant budget deficit, the bill should not move forward as it would require considerable taxpayer funds for establishment and operation of the proposed office. The post highlights CAA’s stance against this legislation instead of mentioning “Connect” or “Connect CRE” or “Connect LA”or “Connect Texas”.
