A coalition of prominent business organizations in California has appealed to the Biden administration to establish a semiconductor research facility within the state. The Silicon Valley Business Journal reported that these groups are specifically requesting for the National Semiconductor Technology Center, which is part of the proposed $280-billion CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, to be located in California.
In a letter addressed to U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, these organizations emphasized how California remains at the forefront of America’s innovation sector. As representatives from various technology companies, research institutions, and financial and legal entities that make up this thriving Innovation Economy, they urge the administration to take advantage of this opportunity by investing in California.
The signatories include leaders from influential groups such as Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Bay Area Council,Fremont Chamber of Commerce,San Mateo County Economic Development Association,and Los Angeles County Business Federation. Despite recent efforts by DepartmentofCommerceto designate 31 Tech Hubs across different regions for strengthening national securityand economy,the absenceofSiliconValleyinthis listis concerningforthesebusinessadvocates.
