**Brooklyn Navy Yard Seeks Academic Partner for Applied Research Facility**
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) from higher education institutions interested in leasing, developing, and operating 20,000 square feet of space at the Research Yard — a dedicated research and innovation hub situated within the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
BNYDC is inviting qualified academic institutions with a strong background in applied research to apply and collaborate on addressing real-world challenges and fostering technological advancements.
The Research Yard, established in 2023 through a partnership with the Pratt Institute and the City University of New York’s City College of Technology, serves as the Navy Yard’s on-site facility for applied research and learning. Development of the space has been organized in two phases.
Phase I was completed with the development of 21,000 square feet, which now houses several mission-driven organizations including the Pratt Center for Community Development, the Center for Climate Adaptation, the STEAMplant, and the Spatial Analysis and Visualization Initiative Center, among others.
With Phase I in operation, BNYDC is now moving forward with Phase II and is seeking a new academic partner to contribute to the next chapter of the Research Yard. The opportunity presents a unique platform for an institution ready to advance innovation, community-focused research, and sustainable development within one of New York City’s most dynamic industrial campuses.
