A recent report from Crain’s Chicago Business revealed that the New Jersey-based investor Antheus Capital purchased the 1,869-unit Lake Meadows housing complex in Bronzeville for $161 million. This 70-acre property is now one of the largest apartment properties in Chicago and marks more than a decade since an ownership change occurred with 2,356 units at Presidential Towers.
The Lake Meadows complex features mid-rise and high rise apartments with views of either city or lake access to Illinois Tech and Lake Meadows Shopping Center. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, it was once considered to be one of America’s biggest privately financed urban renewal projects when it was built on a former slum razed by the city. The acquisition adds more units to Antheus’ growing South Side portfolio which continues expanding its presence in this area. Photo courtesy of Healy Construction
