Bronx Armory's Long-Vacant Space to be Developed by Chosen Team

The Adams administration has chosen a development team to revitalize the Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx. The 570,000-square-foot space has been vacant for a long time and will now be transformed into a mixed-use complex. After issuing an RFP last summer, El Centro Kingsbridge was selected as the winning proposal from 8th Regiment Partners LLC, which is a joint venture between Maddd Equities LLC and Joy Construction Corp.

The first phase of this project will involve creating various spaces such as an event venue, sports fields for local youth academies, cultural and commercial areas, over 25,000 square feet of community space dedicated to serving the neighborhood’s needs and an educational facility focused on workforce development. In addition to these developments in Phase One, there are plans for Phase Two which includes building 450 units of affordable rental housing next to the armory.

Gabriella Madruga , principal at Maddd Equities representing 8th Regiment Partners stated that this partnership is an excellent example of how public-private collaborations can bring new life into historic buildings like this one in New York City. She also expressed her excitement about being entrusted with such a significant property that will honor New York’s rich past while creating opportunities for its future growth.

This proposal by El Centro Kingsbridge marks their third attempt at redeveloping this armory site after previous plans fell through including one where it was supposed to become a skating rink.
