Bridge Industrial Abandons Plans for Baxter's Deerfield Headquarters

In a turn of events marked by local opposition and pushback from residents, Baxter International will keep and upgrade its headquarters campus after Chicago developer Bridge Industrial abandoned plans to convert it into an industrial park, according to Crain’s.

Baxter’s CEO José Almeida announced in a letter to employees that the company was no longer working with JLL for the sale of the campus and would remain committed to upgrading their current site.
The proposal had been met with criticism from area residents as well as Deerfield officials which ultimately led Bridge Industrial withdrawing their proposal in June.

This year has seen Baxter announce plans for spinning off its renal care and acute therapies units into an independent publically traded company followed by layoffs and other cost-cutting measures due to challenges faced along with a failed acquisition bid for Hillrom.
