BRIDGE Housing and The Unity Council, two nonprofit organizations focused on affordable housing and social equity development, recently celebrated the grand opening of Casa Sueños in Oakland’s Fruitvale Village. This 181-unit community was developed in partnership with city, county, and transit partners to address Oakland’s housing shortage. Located near public transportation hubs such as the Fruitvale BART station and AC Transit hub, Casa Sueños offers studio to three-bedroom apartments at affordable rates for families earning 20-80% of Area Median Income.
In addition to providing much-needed housing options for low-income families, Casa Sueños also includes 46 units specifically reserved for previously homeless residents. These units are supported by permanent supportive services provided by Lifelong Medical Care through funding from Alameda County.
The community also features 7,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space that will be utilized by Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ), a local nonprofit dedicated to ending youth criminalization and mass incarceration. With its prime location at the intersection of East 12th Street and 35th Avenue in Oakland’s vibrant Fruitvale neighborhood,Casa Sueños is poised to make a positive impact on both its residents’ lives as well as the surrounding community.
