"Boutique Hotel with Pickleball Courts Coming to Interbay's Vacant Site"

A developer is seeking to capitalize on the growing popularity of pickleball by proposing a boutique hotel with rooftop courts in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood. Hummel Architects has submitted plans for a five-floor hotel at 1551 W. Armory Way, featuring 22 suites and 19 pickleball courts. The estimated cost of the project is $7 million.

According to reports from Puget Sound Business Journal, the proposed building will span over 144,000 square feet and include restaurant and bar spaces totaling approximately 3,000 square feet. The property is owned by Interbay Urban Investors, led by Wathen & Associates Ltd., a developer based in Honolulu and Denver.

The site was previously designated for a Chick-fil-A restaurant but negotiations fell through in 2023. It currently sits vacant between an Interbay Whole Foods store and an Interbay Self Storage facility.

This development presents an exciting opportunity to cater to the growing demand for pickleball facilities while also providing upscale accommodations in this bustling neighborhood of Seattle’s urban core.
