Construction has commenced on the redevelopment of Mildred C. Hailey Apartments in Boston’s Jackson Square, with various officials and stakeholders attending the groundbreaking ceremony hosted by The Community Builders (TCB) and Boston Housing Authority (BHA). Kate Bennett, BHA Administrator stated: “This is a great day for our residents, for our neighbors in Jamaica Plain, and for future generations of low-income families who will proudly call Mildred Hailey their home.”
The initial phase of this Centre Street Partners (CSP) collaboration involves two six-story buildings on Lamartine Street which will feature 223 affordable and moderate-income apartments as well as a new community center named Anna Mae Cole Community Center plus ground floor commercial space. Over the next decade CSP plans to replace seven residential buildings with approximately 673 homes; preserving 253 affordable units while creating around 420 new homes for low to moderate income families—funded from multiple sources including City of Boston funds plus financial institutions.
