"Boosting Development: The Impact of Tacoma's Light Rail Extension"

Sound Transit recently opened the Hilltop Tacoma light rail extension, a $282.7 million project that has significantly increased the length of the T Line. The extension includes one relocated station at Old City Hall and six new stations.

The T Line now provides seamless connectivity between Tacoma’s downtown core and its transit hub in the Tacoma Dome District. According to reports from Puget Sound Business Journal, the newly added stop at South 11th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Hilltop has already spurred multifamily development.

From its inception, this extension was touted as a catalyst for economic growth with an estimated impact of $250 million on regional development. Patricia Beard, business development manager for the city of Tacoma, shared that there are currently 942 living units either completed or under construction along this line.

This expansion of light rail service is driving significant progress in developing areas around it – making it an exciting time to be part of Tacoma’s growing community!
