BOMA New York recently held its highly anticipated Energy Action Day on April 30th. The event featured a keynote address by Anthony Malkin, esteemed chairman and CEO of Empire State Realty Trust. Joining him was an expert panel consisting of Christopher Cayten from CodeGreen Solutions, Bob Murphy from CBRE, and Dana Robbins Schneider from Empire State Realty Trust.

The panel engaged in insightful discussions about effective strategies for achieving energy efficiency and promoting sustainability in the real estate industry. Moderating the conversation was BOMA New York Chairman Patrick Dolan from The Durst Organization.

Malkin emphasized the financial viability of implementing energy-efficient practices in buildings, citing his impressive portfolio’s 92% occupancy rate as evidence. He also stressed the importance of repurposing existing structures rather than constructing new ones to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, Malkin encouraged tenants to actively participate in reducing energy consumption and highlighted programs such as Urban Land Institute’s “How-To” guide for optimizing energy usage.
