Battery Maker Begins Construction on $1.2B Tucson Factory

American Battery Factory has begun construction on a massive gigafactory spanning two million square feet in Tucson, Arizona. This project is expected to bring 1,000 job opportunities and generate $3.1 billion in economic impact for the state of Arizona through a capital investment of $1.2 billion.

Located on 267 acres within Pima County’s Aerospace Research Campus, this facility will utilize rapid modular construction techniques by Sprung Instant Structures and aims to have its headquarters, R&D center and initial factory module completed by 2025.

As an emerging battery manufacturer at the forefront of developing the first network of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell gigafactories in the United States, American Battery is strategically leveraging Arizona’s high-capacity border and transportation infrastructure to distribute their products nationwide as well as globally.

With projections estimating that the global market for lithium batteries will reach $105 billion by 2025 with demand increasing tenfold over the next decade, American Battery’s decision to use lithium iron phosphate chemistry sets them apart from competitors. This type of battery is known for being safer, longer-lasting,and more reliable than other options currently available while also being environmentally friendly.
