Owners of the Bastrop 552 Project, a 546-acre film studio, are aiming to begin work by the end of this year. According to an Austin Business Journal report, when completed it could have 486,000 square feet of studio space and 300,000 square feet and 200,000 square feet for warehouse/mill space and office space respectively. The first phase is expected to break ground in Q4 2023 with six 20k studios; two 10k sound stages; a 50k warehouse with mill spaces; as well as 52K office spaces.
The applicants run Line 204 Studios in Los Angeles which provides stages and equipment rentals for Netflixs’, Hulu’s & NFL’s productions. An analysis prepared on behalf of the applicant stated that once construction is complete it could generate $177 million annually while supporting 1 443 permanent jobs & $64 million household earnings paid out over ten years post completion date. It is anticipated that if all goes according to plan then the studio should be open by late 2024
