**Bastrop Approves Incentives for 826,000-SF Burleson Crossing East Mixed-Use Development**
The town of Bastrop, Texas, has approved a development agreement paving the way for a major retail project that will bring national tenants including Sprouts Farmers Market, PetSmart, and LongHorn Steakhouse to the area. The project, known as Burleson Crossing East, will be developed by Durhman & Bassett Realty Group and will span 826,000 square feet of mixed-use retail space.
As part of the agreement, Bastrop will provide a $1 million incentive package to support road improvements associated with the development. The new project will be located at the northeast corner of State Highway 71 and Edward Burleson Drive.
City officials estimate that Burleson Crossing East will generate approximately $525,000 in property tax revenue annually and contribute an additional $1.43 million each year to Bastrop’s general fund.
Situated southeast of Austin, the city of Bastrop had an estimated population of 12,000 as of 2023. However, the surrounding Bastrop County houses around 100,000 residents, and the greater Bastrop retail trade area serves roughly 250,000 people as of 2024. The addition of this retail center is expected to serve the growing regional demand and attract further investment in the area.
