Barnes & Noble, a popular retail bookseller, has announced plans to open five new locations in the Chicago area this year. Among these is a store at the iconic building on 1601 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park that was previously occupied by Noel Street Bank and Walgreens. The company will lease the entire 26,133-square-foot space for its newest location.
In addition to Wicker Park, Barnes & Noble will also be opening stores at prime locations such as Lincoln Park’s 651 W. Diversey Parkway and Northbrook’s Village Square shopping center. Another location is planned for Prairie Market Shopping Center in Oswego while another one will be located at Town Square Shopping Center in Schererville, Indiana.
According to Janine Flanigan of Barnes & Noble spokespersons team: “Barnes & Noble is currently experiencing significant growth and we are excited about our expansion across the country.” This statement comes after recent openings of other Chicago-area stores including Skokie, Schaumburg Deer Park Algonquin Vernon Hills Oak Brook Bolingbrook Geneva Orland park Joliet among others.
