**Bank of America Chicago Marathon Generates $683 Million Economic Boost for Chicago Area**
The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon delivered a record-setting economic impact of $683 million to the Chicago metro area, according to a recent study conducted by Jones & Associates Economics.
This figure represents a 22% increase over the previous year’s results and underscores the marathon’s rising global prominence and deepened local significance. The event attracted nearly 53,000 participants and saw a 130% surge in out-of-state attendance. This influx of visitors significantly boosted local spending on accommodations, dining, retail, and transportation. Tourism alone accounted for more than $177 million directly linked to the marathon.
Beyond its economic contributions, the event also had a substantial effect on the local labor market, supporting 4,589 full-time jobs and generating $229 million in wages. Additionally, participants raised a record-breaking $36 million for a variety of charitable causes.
“Reaching nearly $700 million in impact, the marathon is one of Chicago’s most powerful engines for tourism and community pride,” said Kristen Reynolds, President and CEO of Choose Chicago.
Rita Cook, President of Bank of America Chicago, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Each year, we are amazed by all the visitors and residents who pour into our community to generate impact for Chicago.”
The marathon continues to be a hallmark event for the city, reinforcing its cultural and economic significance on both a local and global scale.
