Austin Semiconductor Company Investing $83M in Factory Upgrades

**Infineon Sells Austin Plant to SkyWater Technology, Plans $83M in Upgrades**

Chipmaker **Infineon Technologies** is selling its plant at 5204 E. Ben White Blvd. in Austin to semiconductor company **SkyWater Technology**.

Despite the sale, Infineon will continue to invest in the facility to ensure it remains operational by the time the acquisition is finalized. The two companies have agreed to a long-term supply agreement.

Infineon is planning approximately **$83 million** in improvements at the site, including **$45.5 million** for new equipment and tools, and **$37.9 million** for facility upgrades.

As part of the transition, Infineon’s **960 employees** will become SkyWater employees. SkyWater intends to use the fabrication facility to produce chips ranging from **65 to 130 nanometers**, commonly used in vehicles and defense applications.

The facility was previously home to **Cypress Semiconductor Corp.,** which was acquired by Infineon in April 2020.
