"Austin Considers Purchasing Vacant Tech Campus"

The City of Austin is currently evaluating the potential purchase of a 107-acre campus owned by Tokyo Electron for $90 million. According to reports from the Austin Business Journal, this acquisition would include two existing buildings that could be utilized as a second Combined Technology and Emergency Communications Center, as well as office space for future city needs. The property consists of 46.8 acres with two buildings totaling 189,795 square feet and an additional undeveloped area spanning 60.3 acres with ample opportunities for development.

This prime location is situated near the headquarters of Oracle Corp., making it an ideal spot for businesses looking to establish themselves in Austin’s thriving tech scene. It also borders a former semiconductor factory owned by the University of Texas.

In the coming weeks, the Austin City Council will review and consider this purchase which has been estimated at $90 million until an official appraisal can be completed.

Tokyo Electron has been operating in Austin for over three decades but recently made plans to relocate its headquarters to RiverSouth in order to strategically position itself for continued growth over the next thirty years while providing employees with modern workspaces.

Currently employing approximately 450 individuals locally, Tokyo Electron’s vacant tech campus presents great potential and opportunity within one of Texas’ most dynamic cities.
