**Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Nears Start of $4 Billion Expansion**

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) is approaching the groundbreaking phase of a massive $4 billion expansion project. With major contractors already selected, airport officials are preparing to bring subcontractors on board to begin construction.

According to the Austin Business Journal, the expansion is comprehensive and will significantly enhance the airport’s capacity and infrastructure. Plans include:

– A new terminal with up to 30 additional gates
– A new parking garage
– A tunnel connecting the existing terminal to the new terminal
– Redesigned taxiways for improved aircraft movement
– Updated baggage handling systems
– A new arrivals and departures hall

ABIA executives have set a target to complete the expansion by 2030.

– Austin Bridge and Road
– Hensel Phelps Construction
– Whiting-Turner Contracting Co.

In addition to the large-scale infrastructure improvements, the project has set aside more than $400 million to engage small, local, minority-owned, and women-owned businesses, ensuring an inclusive approach to economic opportunity throughout the endeavor.
