Wilson Capital’s plans for Wilson Tower, which was slated to be the tallest building in Texas, have been scaled back from 80 stories to 45. According to the Austin Business Journal, this decision was made due to a challenging economy and lack of enthusiasm from Austin’s Design Commission. As a result of this reduction in height, it will no longer be the state’s tallest building and will offer 350 apartments instead of 450 originally planned.
Despite these changes, Wilson Capital is still aiming for a 2023 groundbreaking date for Wilson Tower while simultaneously juggling smaller projects across the Austin metro area; they currently have 1,894 units under construction with plans to start 885 more by year-end on sites that they own.
