Duracell, a well-known battery manufacturer, is investing $56 million to construct a new research and development headquarters in Atlanta. The facility will require 110 employees and is set to open in the summer of 2026 as part of Science Square Labs. This project follows the successful launch of the first phase of Science Square last year. Georgia Tech has partnered with Trammell Crow Co., a commercial real estate firm, for this venture.
Upon completion, Science Square will cover 18 acres and feature 1.8 million square feet of laboratory and office space along with residential apartments and retail spaces.
Duracell specializes in producing alkaline batteries as well as lithium coin batteries and hearing aid batteries. It operates under Berkshire Hathaway Inc., one of its subsidiaries.
Since establishing itself in Georgia back in 1980, Duracell has been an integral part of the state’s economy. It currently runs a manufacturing plant located at LaGrange that employs around 400 individuals while also operating another distribution center situated at Fairburn that provides jobs for approximately275 workers.
