The Atlanta Medical Center is set to be demolished by a wrecking ball, as the Integral Group has hired a contractor for the job. The building’s owners, Integral and Wellstar Health System, have plans to replace it with a mixed-use community featuring housing, retail spaces, and health facilities. Leading the demolition team is Ferma Corp., who anticipates completing their work by 2025. Once the site has been cleared of debris, development plans will be presented.
To determine how best to utilize this property in Atlanta’s landscape, city officials collaborated with engineering firm Kimley-Horn. Their conceptual plan outlines over 2 million square feet of residential space and hundreds of thousands more for commercial use.
Wellstar made the decision to close Atlanta Medical Center in November 2022 due to declining revenue and rising costs that posed financial risks for their organization.
