Wellstone Health System has enlisted the help of The Integral Group to lead the redevelopment project for Atlanta Medical Center, which has been closed since November 2022. Construction is set to commence in the coming weeks.
The ambitious plan for the 22-acre campus includes a diverse mix of residential and commercial properties, affordable housing options, public green spaces, retail outlets at a neighborhood level, new street access points and resources focused on promoting health and well-being.
Integral will spend the next few weeks devising an implementation strategy while also seeking input from local residents and community stakeholders. The revitalization process will be carried out in stages over several years with continuous involvement from members of the community. In response to their desire for swift progress, Integral plans to apply for necessary permits soon with demolition work on certain aging structures expected to begin by early 2025.
Accordingly Wellstar had cited declining revenue coupled with rising costs related staff salaries as well as supplies when announcing its decision last year regarding closure.
