The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is embarking on a new project to provide permanent housing for veterans in the metro Atlanta area. The organization’s Homeless Veteran Program will be extended through the redevelopment of a property adjacent to Six Flags Over Georgia. This former Wingate by Wyndham hotel, located off I-20 at 65 South Service Rd., will undergo revitalization and become a community that can accommodate approximately 95 retired service members.
According to reports from the Atlanta Business Journal, Tunnel to Towers purchased the Wyndham hotel last year and has already begun requesting demolition permits for construction which is set to begin within the next month. The foundation acquired this property in September for $6.75 million.
Plans are underway for Veterans Village, which will feature top-of-the-line amenities such as comprehensive security systems, an on-site movie theater, fitness center and ground-floor office space designated for case managers, therapists and peer support specialists.
Tunnel To Towers aims to complete construction by late this year with hopes of providing much-needed housing options for our nation’s heroes.
