Anthropic, the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company, is expanding its footprint with a new office in Cambridge. The company has signed a lease for 24,000 square feet at One Kendall Square, a move that was first reported by the Boston Globe. The lease establishes a formal presence for Anthropic in the Kendall Square district, a hub known for its concentration of research institutions and technology-focused companies.
Company president Daniela Amodei highlighted the importance of the region to Anthropic’s user base in remarks reported by the Boston Business Journal. She noted that top life sciences researchers in the area are already using Anthropic’s Claude to support their own work. In her statement, Amodei described Cambridge as a natural place for the company to put down roots and emphasized the opportunity to grow alongside scientists, universities, and institutions working on significant global challenges.
The new office location places Anthropic in close proximity to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, effectively positioning the company on MIT’s doorstep. The site is also just blocks from several prominent life sciences firms, including AstraZeneca, Biogen, and Takeda, each of which is described as being in various stages of expansion in the neighborhood. This clustering underscores Kendall Square’s role as a dense ecosystem of research-driven and innovation-oriented occupiers.
The lease also aligns Anthropic with a broader pattern of Bay Area technology companies establishing a local foothold in the Cambridge market. According to the Business Journal, firms such as Google, Meta, and Microsoft have already built out their own presence in the area. Anthropic’s decision to secure space at One Kendall Square adds another major technology tenant to this roster and further integrates the company into the region’s academic and commercial research community.
