Chicago Mayor Selects Ciere Boatright as New Director of Planning and Development

Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the appointment of Ciere Boatright, a real estate executive with a strong background in community development, as the new Director of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development. With deep connections to the city’s South Side, Boatright has a successful record in bringing investments to historically underdeveloped areas.

Boatright will be taking over from interim Commissioner Patrick Murphey who stepped into the role after former Commissioner Maurice Cox left. Prior to this position, she worked at Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives where she led projects in various South Side neighborhoods including Pullman.

Currently serving as Vice President for Real Estate and Community Development at CRG – a prominent development firm based in Chicago – Boatright will join Mayor Johnson’s administration on November 20 pending City Council approval. In her new role, she will oversee all aspects of planning and development while focusing on promoting equitable economic growth through community engagement.

According to Mayor Johnson: “Ciere is an exceptional leader with extensive experience managing both public and private developments across our city. I have full confidence that she will continue getting deals done for our communities.”
