La Porte, a town located in the Greater Houston area with a population of 37,000, is currently experiencing significant growth. This can be seen through the recent groundbreaking of a dual-branded hotel and plans for two more hotels to be built. Additionally, there are plans for a retail center and restaurant row to be developed.
According to reports from the Houston Business Journal, construction began in October on a four-story Marriott hotel that will feature both TownePlace Suites and Fairfield Inn. The new hotel will have 135 rooms and is being built by Mahalaxmi Hotels on the southwest corner of Fairmont Parkway and State Highway 146 where their existing Home2 Suites by Hilton La Porte and Candlewood Suites La Porte are also located. Along South 13th Street next to these hotels, Mahalaxmi Hotels has proposed an 8,700-square-foot retail center.
In addition to this development project by Mahalaxmi Hotels, there are also plans for two other hotels – Hampton Inn & Suites as well as Holiday Inn Express – in La Porte.
On another note at the intersection of Highway 146/Fairmont Parkway across from where these developments are taking place,a former Wells Fargo bank building has been demolished in order for three new restaurants to take its place.
