"Amgen to Expand Holly Springs Factory with $1B Investment"

Amgen has revealed plans for a major expansion in North Carolina, with a $1 billion investment to establish a second drug manufacturing facility in Holly Springs. This brings the company’s total commitment to the area to over $1.5 billion, building upon their previous pledge of $550 million.

The new facility will feature state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable practices, complementing the existing plant and creating 370 new jobs in the region as part of its growing biomanufacturing hub.

To support this project, Amgen received approval from North Carolina’s Economic Investment Committee for a Job Development Investment Grant that will provide annual reimbursements of up to $4.9 million over 12 years. It is estimated that this expansion will contribute approximately $3.6 billion to the state’s economy during this time period and generate more than 720 jobs across both facilities when fully operational.

Construction on the site at 4130 Friendship Road began in March 2022 and is expected to be completed by 2026 when it becomes operational alongside Amgen’s existing plant on-site.

With nearly109 acres already owned by Amgen at this location, these two facilities are set to become key components of their expanding operations.
