According to a report by the Seattle Times, Amazon is planning to decrease its presence in the Seattle area and vacate an office building in Denny Triangle. This decision comes as the e-commerce giant expands its operations in Bellevue.
The company’s lease at 1220 Howell Street, also known as Metropolitan Park North, has expired. The property provided approximately 209,000 square feet of space for Amazon.
This move reflects a trend among companies in the Seattle area who are reevaluating their office spaces due to hybrid work arrangements. Notably, Amazon has recently announced that it will be resuming its return-to-office mandate.
In recent years, Amazon has been focusing on growing its employee base in Bellevue rather than at their original campus location in Seattle. As part of this shift, around 800 employees from Met Park North have been relocated to other facilities within their Puget Sound headquarters. Additionally earlier this year, the company chose not renew their lease at West 8th tower located downtown Seattle and moved those employees elsewhere.
