**Amazon Eyes $15 Billion Expansion with Nearly 80 New Logistics Facilities**
Amazon is exploring a massive $15-billion warehouse expansion that could add close to 80 logistics facilities across U.S. cities and rural regions, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
The e-commerce giant is asking potential capital partners to submit proposals for the project as it looks to further scale its vast logistics network. While many of the planned facilities are expected to serve as delivery hubs, some will feature large, multi-story fulfillment centers equipped with robotics technology.
Currently, Amazon operates more than 600 fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and same-day delivery facilities across the U.S. The company is willing to sign long-term leases—ranging from 15 to 25 years—on many of the new sites. In some instances, Amazon may directly fund the developments.
This move comes after Amazon significantly ramped up its logistics spend during the pandemic, at one point absorbing $2 billion in quarterly expenses due to excess warehouse and transportation capacity. In recent years, Amazon has scaled back those investments, shifting much of its focus toward its cloud computing and artificial intelligence divisions.
The warehouse expansion would mark a renewed investment in the company’s core retail operations, showcasing Amazon’s continued commitment to optimizing last-mile delivery and strengthening its nationwide distribution capabilities.
