**Acer House, an Affordable Housing Project in Seattle’s Central District, Breaks Ground**
Acer House, a 121-unit affordable housing development located in Seattle’s Central District, has officially broken ground. The mixed-use project is aimed at serving the city’s Black community and represents a significant milestone in inclusive and sustainable housing efforts in the area.
The development is supported by a $12.6 million below-market-rate loan from Amazon’s Housing Equity Fund, which is part of the company’s broader initiative to preserve and create more than 35,000 affordable homes across the Puget Sound, National Capital, and Nashville regions.
Located at 2210 E. Cherry Street, Acer House is designed as an Afro-futurist building and reflects culturally responsive design ideals. The five-and-a-half-story development was first announced in 2020 but experienced delays due to the permitting process. Overall project costs are estimated at $44 million.
The project is being developed through a partnership between Urban Black and Great Expectations. Rush Construction is serving as the general contractor. Engineering services are being provided by Integrated Design Engineers and TCC Associates. Architectural design is led by Urbal Architecture, Schemata Workshop, and Donald King, FAIA.
Acer House is poised to become a model for equitable urban development, bringing quality housing and community-centered design to the heart of Seattle.
