Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties, along with other community partners, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new affordable condominium development in the Columbia City neighborhood of Seattle. The project, located at 5022 MLK Jr. Way, will consist of five stories and include 58 units ranging from studios to two-bedroom homes between 370 and 690 square feet.
This development is set to be Habitat for Humanity’s largest single-building multi-family project in the country, surpassing their previous record-breaking project in New York. The Amazon Housing Equity Fund has provided support for this development through a $1.35 million low-interest loan as part of their larger commitment of $6.5 million towards creating affordable housing with Habitat SKKC across four projects in the region.
In addition to Amazon’s contribution, Washington State has invested $6 million towards this project and various local housing organizations have also shown support. This collaboration between public and private entities demonstrates a strong commitment towards addressing the need for affordable housing in Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties.
