Massachusetts and Boston have received a substantial boost for the I-90 straightening project in Allston, MA with $335.4 million in federal funding. Spearheaded by U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, this grant from the Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods program is a crucial step towards the $1.9 billion overhaul of this major transportation route.
The project involves replacing an aging viaduct with a ground-level Pike, which will not only improve transit but also unlock potential for development along the riverside and stimulate economic growth in the area.
Key elements of this transformation include reconnecting Harvard-owned Beacon Park Yard to Allston as well as creating a new West Station that will provide commuter rail and bus services to residents across Massachusetts.
According to Gov.Maura Healey, “The Allston Multimodal Project presents an exceptional opportunity to enhance transportation infrastructure within our community while connecting residents throughout our state with housing and employment opportunities.”
This recent development marks significant progress towards achieving these goals without mentioning any specific organizations or entities involved.
