Construction is progressing on a major data center project in southeast Plano, where Aligned Data Centers is building a two-story, 425,000-square-foot facility at 601 N. Star Road. The development, designed as a large-scale compute hub, is tailored for Lambda Inc., a cloud-computing firm backed by Nvidia.
The project is being delivered in phases, with a total planned capacity of 72 megawatts of computing power. The overall investment is reported at $700 million, and the data center is expected to reach full completion next year, according to the development team.
The phased delivery schedule is organized around 9-megawatt increments. The first 9 megawatts of capacity are slated to be ready by June, allowing Lambda to begin installing servers while additional phases continue to come online. Subsequent 9-megawatt blocks will be activated as construction progresses across the balance of the facility.
Site work began in 2024, and key infrastructure milestones have already been reached. Construction crews have completed the core and shell of the building, as well as an adjacent electrical substation that will support the facility’s power needs. Power equipment installation is also in place, positioning the project to ramp up capacity in line with the phased delivery plan.
At full build-out, Lambda’s new data center will include 12 data halls. Each hall is planned at approximately 20,000 square feet, with layouts accommodating 16 to 20 rows of servers. Each server row is expected to hold roughly 40 racks, underscoring the high-density configuration and scale of the deployment envisioned for the site.
Aligned Data Centers is leading the development, supported by a broader project team that includes Turner Construction Co., Olsson, WSP and Corgan. Together, the group is advancing both the building structure and the critical infrastructure required to support high-capacity cloud computing operations for Lambda.
