Aldi is expanding its footprint in Central Florida with plans to open new stores in the Orlando area. The discount grocer will repurpose former Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets, following its acquisition of the two chains last year.

As part of a $9 billion nationwide investment, Aldi will convert multiple locations to its brand, including 13 stores in Florida alone. Among the upcoming locations are stores in Deltona, Melbourne, and Orlando, all previously occupied by Winn-Dixie.

Known for its no-frills, low-cost shopping experience, Aldi typically operates in smaller retail spaces compared to traditional supermarkets. According to the Orlando Business Journal, the company plans to utilize only the space it requires and intends to lease out any unused portions of the properties.

Each new store is expected to employ between 15 to 20 people.

The conversion of Winn-Dixie and Harveys locations began in the summer of last year, with nine projects either in progress or set to start soon.

Aldi continues its rapid expansion, having opened nearly 120 new stores in 2023, bringing its total number of U.S. locations to over 2,400 across 38 states.
