"Alamo Drafthouse Set to Acquire Closed Bay Area Movie Theaters"

According to recent reports, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is set to acquire two Bay Area theatre locations that closed down last month. The company, based in Austin, is said to be finalizing deals for the former ShowPlace Icon theatres at San Antonio Center in Mountain View and Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara.

Sources have revealed that Alamo has applied for full-service liquor licenses at both locations, allowing them to offer food and cocktails. This news comes just two months after Sony Pictures Entertainment purchased the chain from its previous owners who had bought it out of bankruptcy back in 2021.

If successful, these new additions would bring Alamo’s total number of California locations up to four. Currently, they operate theatres in San Francisco’s Mission District and Downtown Los Angeles. Founded over 20 years ago (in 1997), the company also has a presence in major cities such as New York City, Chicago,Boston,Washington DC,Denv
