AHSC Combines Two Dorchester Buildings into One Affordable Complex

Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. (AHSC) is a nonprofit organization that specializes in developing and owning affordable rental communities. Recently, they began construction on a new project located on Columbia Avenue in Dorchester called Columbia-Uphams. This project involves the preservation and rehabilitation of two separate buildings – Columbia West Apartments and Uphams Corner Apartments.

By combining these two buildings into one project, AHSC aims to create 91 rehabilitated units that will range from studios to three-bedroom apartments once completed. In 2018, AHSC acquired ownership of Uphams Corner Apartments which consists of 45 units. They then acquired ownership of the neighboring building, Columbia West Apartments with 46 units in 2020.

After acquiring both properties, AHSC partnered with Peabody Properties – their longtime strategic partner – to submit a financing plan for consolidating both properties under one entity controlled by AHSC.

Construction is currently underway and expected to be completed by June of 2025. Once finished, Peabody Properties will manage the complex on behalf of AHSC.
