Affordable Senior Housing: Community Initiative to Build on Landover Church Parking Lot

The First Baptist Church of Highland Park and affordable housing developer Community Housing Initiative have received final land use approval to build a 137-unit all-affordable senior housing building in Landover, Maryland., according to the Washington Business Journal. The project is designed to address the need for affordable housing for seniors in the region and will consist of five stories with rent caps for households making up to 50% and 60% of the area median income.

Owned by Highland Senior Living LLLP, a joint venture between CHI and the church, construction on this project is expected begin in early 2024 with completion targeted for 2025. Financial support from county government has been secured as well.

This development provides an opportunity meet an important need within its community while providing much needed resources that can help local seniors remain independent longer into their lives.
