Affordable Income Rental Development in Harlem's Marcus Garvey Village Breaks Ground

Carthage Real Estate Advisors recently hosted a groundbreaking event for the construction of 112 West 124th Street at Marcus Garvey Village, Central Harlem’s first 100% affordable multifamily rental in over a decade. Edward Poteat, President of Carthage Real Estate Advisors said “This project has been my dream for more than 25 years, starting when I was Co-chair of the Housing Committee for Community Board 10.” He also thanked New York City Housing Development Corporation (NYCHDC) “for their support on every level.”

The 20-story residential tower will feature 168 apartments with different sizes and amenities such as a residents’ roof deck with performance space dedicated to community artists. The project is expected to be completed in November 2024 and will be part of the Marcus Garvey Village development which includes three rental towers – two being 100% affordable housing units.

Harlem’s long awaited affordable income rental development at Marcus Garvey Village officially broke ground this week marking an important milestone towards providing much needed housing options within Central Harlem area after more than 10 years without any new developments offering similar services
