McKinney Secures $52M for Airport Expansion Aimed at Launching Commercial Passenger Service
McKinney, Texas, has secured over $52 million in funding to support a major expansion project at McKinney National Airport. The investment is part of a broader plan to bring commercial passenger service to the city.
The planned expansion includes the development of a new 45,000-square-foot passenger terminal on the east side of the airport. The terminal is designed to accommodate three gates initially, with capacity to expand to five gates in the future. Additional infrastructure will include a 1,500-space parking lot, six aircraft parking positions suitable for both commercial and general aviation operations, an aircraft de-icing facility, above-ground fuel storage tanks, and various support systems.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $75.1 million. Officials noted that the project qualifies for federal funding and has strong potential to receive additional support beyond the locally secured funds.
Construction on the expansion is slated to begin in May 2025, with substantial completion expected by July 2026. Commercial passenger service is anticipated to launch in late 2026.
