Switch, a leading data center provider, is making progress on its first facility in Round Rock. The 36-acre campus, known as “The Rock,” spans 1.5 million square feet and was purchased from Dell (see photo). Recently approved by the Austin City Council is a second location for Switch on Louis Henna Boulevard and east of Greenlawn Boulevard. This new site covers 32 acres and was also previously owned by Dell Technologies.
According to the Austin Business Journal, site plans reveal that the new space will feature buildings, an electrical substation, a communications tower, and parking spaces all enclosed by a perimeter wall. These massive buildings are often referred to as “the cloud” due to their size and high level of security.
It remains unclear if Switch will seek incentives for this latest project; however they have already received tax breaks for their initial project with conditions requiring them to spend over $80 million on construction costs.
This development marks another milestone in Switch’s expansion into the Austin area which has been well-received by Connect CRE readers.
