New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the formation of a Charter Revision Commission (CRC) to review the city’s charter and improve municipal government responsiveness to residents’ needs, particularly in promoting fair housing across all five boroughs. This comes after his administration successfully secured City Council approval for the “City of Yes” rezoning proposal, which aims to create 80,000 new affordable homes over 15 years and invest $5 billion in critical infrastructure updates.
“Our goal is clear: provide more affordable housing for working-class New Yorkers and their families while making our city more accessible,” stated Adams. He emphasized that they will continue using all available resources, including reviewing the city’s charter, to achieve this goal. Despite their recent success with the “City of Yes” proposal, there is still much work left to do in addressing high living costs within NYC.
The CRC will be chaired by Richard R. Buery Jr., CEO of Robin Hood organization. Sharon Greenberger from YMCA Greater New York will serve as vice chair while Leila Bozorg from NYC Housing Authority takes on secretary duties.
