Aalo Atomics, a young company focused on compact nuclear energy systems, plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Georgetown by renovating an existing industrial building. The company produces small, factory-built nuclear power plants designed specifically to supply electricity to artificial intelligence data centers, differentiating its technology from traditional large-scale nuclear power plants such as Three Mile Island.

The planned facility will be housed in a 204,000-square-foot warehouse that will be upgraded to accommodate Aalo Atomics’ production needs. The renovation program will create a machine shop and dedicated production floor area intended to support the fabrication and assembly of the company’s nuclear units. Rather than constructing a new building from the ground up, Aalo Atomics will adapt the current warehouse to suit highly specialized industrial and technological requirements.

According to reporting from Community Impact, the project budget is estimated at $25 million. Site work is expected to begin in November, with the schedule targeting completion by early 2028. The phased timeline reflects both the scope of the renovation and the technical complexity of bringing nuclear manufacturing capabilities into an existing distribution-style footprint.

Aalo Atomics was founded in 2023 and has already achieved a key technical milestone with its Critical Test Reactor, or CTR. The company reports that it successfully initiated a self-sustaining nuclear reaction in the CTR, a demonstration unit that was built in less than eight months. This early proof-of-concept supports Aalo Atomics’ objective of moving from testing to scaled production within a relatively compressed timeframe.

The Georgetown facility is intended to support the mass production of what the company calls Aalo pods. These modular units are designed to deliver constant, clean electricity to power-hungry data centers that process and train artificial intelligence models. By manufacturing standardized pods in a factory setting, Aalo Atomics aims to provide an energy source that can be deployed to meet rising power demand associated with AI infrastructure.

While specific operating details for the Georgetown plant have not been disclosed, the combination of a large existing warehouse footprint and a defined investment budget provides a clear view of the project’s physical and capital scale. The decision to retrofit an existing building rather than develop a new facility highlights the use of current industrial inventory to support emerging energy technologies tied to the data center sector.
