In a surprising turn of events, Baxter International will keep and upgrade its headquarters campus in Deerfield, Illinois after Chicago developer Bridge Industrial abandoned plans to convert it into an industrial park. Crain’s reported on the news.
Baxter CEO José Almeida wrote a letter to employees stating that the company was no longer working with JLL to sell the campus and would remain dedicated to upgrading their current site. This decision came as a result of local opposition from residents and village officials in Deerfield which forced Bridge Industrial to withdraw their proposal back in June, ultimately leading them away from this project altogether.
This year has been filled with challenges for Baxter; they announced plans for spinning off two units as independent companies while also making layoffs and other cost-cutting moves due failed acquisition bid for Hillrom . Despite all these changes however, it appears that Baxter is committed towards keeping their headquarters where they are now – at least until further notice!
