Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Strategic Growth Council recently announced an investment of $757 million to advance the construction of affordable housing in both Northern and Southern California. This funding will create more than 2,500 affordable homes, 150 zero-emissions buses, over 50 miles of bikeways and improve numerous sidewalks throughout communities across the state.
“California is transforming its cities to address climate change and tackle housing scarcity,” said Governor Newsom. “These investments will help reduce carbon pollution while increasing access to affordable housing as we strive for a clean energy future.”
More than half of this total has been allocated towards projects in Northern California through the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program . In just one round alone, AHSC-funded developments have leveraged a combined total of $2.4 billion from local sources such as state governments, federal agencies or private investors.
